Abstract:

The concept of humanism has been a central tenet of various philosophical discourses, especially in the context of the ethical and spiritual development of humanity. In the Indian philosophical tradition, the thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi and Sri Aurobindo stand out for their unique contributions to humanism. Both thinkers approached humanism from different angles—Gandhi from an ethical and social perspective, and Aurobindo from a spiritual and evolutionary standpoint. Despite these differences, their philosophies converge in their deep respect for human dignity and the potential for individual and collective progress. This essay seeks to explore and compare the concept of humanism as envisioned by Gandhi and Aurobindo, analyzing their philosophical perspectives in detail. By doing so, we will gain a deeper understanding of how their ideas continue to resonate in contemporary discussions on human welfare, social justice, and spiritual progress.
